Village Enterprise Development Impact Bond
The $5.26 million, four-year DIB will fund Village Enterprise’s implementation of the “Graduation Approach” to drive sustained income and asset gains for extreme poor households in Uganda and Kenya over the next five years.
GDI’s role
GDI acts as Trustee of the Outcomes Fund – a role that no other DIB has had before. As Trustee, GDI serves as the central “clearinghouse,” contracting with counterparties, managing risk and payments, and holding cash inflows from outcome payers in escrow until disbursement. We hope this role mitigates the challenges of setting up large Outcomes Funds for DIBs by reducing cost and processing time, “crowding in” investors, and ensuring a neutral party manages contracts, risks, and cashflows.
