Mool Capital
The critical first mile of India’s recycling economy remains underfunded. Over 4 million nano and informal waste entrepreneurs manage 60%+ of India’s solid waste. First-mile services of waste collection, sorting, and aggregation delivered by these entrepreneurs help industry and government hit waste recycling targets, cut emissions, and save municipal budgets. Yet they receive just 2% of waste-sector finance. The challenge isn’t a lack of impact. It’s a lack of investable pathways. Mool Capital aims to make these informal waste enterprises investable. Mool Capital combines data, financing solutions, and technical assistance to reduce risk for capital providers while helping entrepreneurs access and absorb finance.
GDI’s role
GDI is building Mool Capital with ecosystem partners to mobilize formal finance for India’s first-mile waste entrepreneurs. Following an extensive market Discovery phase, we are now piloting the model to demonstrate investability, generate evidence, and build a scalable financing ecosystem that can crowd in mainstream capital over time.
