The scale of our global challenges and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals requires public, private and philanthropic capital to come together at scale. Convergence is a global network for blended finance, generating data, intelligence, and deal flow to increase private sector investment in developing countries. With 165 members and almost $2 billion dollars mobilized, Convergence supports its members and drives the field forward through knowledge sharing, deal flow, and grant funding for the design of new blended finance structures.
Together with Dalberg, GDI drafted the report “Innovative Financing for Development” that outlined barriers to blended finance transactions. With interest and initial funding from Global Affairs Canada to address these barriers, GDI convened and supported a range of partners to design, build, and launch Convergence. Among other key steps, GDI helped Convergence secure over CAD 25M in funding and grow its team from zero to ten full-time staff.
