Since our founding in 2013, GDI has built a significant track record in our field – shaping over 70 social impact ventures, including 25 initiatives exited, that have collectively raised more than $724m.

Job Description


GDI is currently seeking a Resource Mobilization Lead to cultivate, manage, and coordinate our relationships with external funding partners, especially philanthropic foundations and high net wealth individuals (HNWIs). The successful candidate will bring existing relationships and a track record of mobilizing support in the sector, as well as an excitement to work with GDI’s current relationships. The Lead will support GDI’s Portfolio Directors and our venture CEOs to craft resource mobilization strategies, segment and identify potential leads, and facilitate successful conversations and proposals. They will also help raise and manage our second GDI Seed Fund – a grant-based facility to support GDI’s exploration of new opportunities and start-up funding for new ventures. Finally, the Lead will work to build a GDI strategy for, and deepen relationships with, family foundations and high net wealth individuals.

The Resource Mobilization Lead will have the opportunity to hire and manage an Associate to conduct research and to support the work. This position reports to the Founder and Global Coordinator.


  • Positioning GDI among different funder segments and ensuring that the global team is aligned
  • Expanding funder networks, with a particular focus on HNWIs, family offices, and private foundations
  • Managing HNWI and foundation fundraising relationships; and, supporting and coordinating government and institutional foundation relationships, where needed
  • Supporting the design of resource mobilization strategies and plans for the portfolio of active initiatives (usually 3-4 in active development at a time)
  • Managing execution of the resource mobilization process, including oversight of materials and proposal development
  • Managing an Associate to conduct research on funder priorities, follow-up research on opportunities, tracking of relationships and other tasks to be determined by the Lead
  • Partnering with later-stage / exiting initiatives to help them build their own resource mobilization capacity
  • Supporting GDI Seed Fund II design, outreach, ongoing management of relationships, and quarterly meeting facilitation




  • An interest in learning, a curious and entrepreneurial mindset, and a relentless drive to get things done
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent and a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in a related position
  • Significant knowledge of the funder community and latest trends, needs and opportunities
  • Experience in crafting thoughtful and winning resource mobilization strategies
  • Deep network of funders across a variety of issue areas, particularly those focused on global development, and an ability to develop and cultivate new relationships, including those based outside the US / EU
  • Ability to partner with and support different teams
  • Demonstrated success developing cross-sectoral partnerships
  • Fluency in the languages of social impact, global development, and public-private partnerships
  • Strong operational and organizational skills; ability to manage across a variety of topics, partners, and partnerships
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; effective influencer of diverse perspectives with a demonstrated ability to facilitate change at the senior level of organizations

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $140,000 to $175,000, based on experience. GDI offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes employer contributions to health, dental, and vision insurance plans for employees and dependents and 401(k) matching contributions.
