Ogletree Reparative Bar Association (ORBA)
A thriving, multiracial democracy in America requires racial repair. A historic groundswell for such racial repair is quietly but unmistakably burgeoning across the United States. More than 400 initiatives have taken root in 30+ cities, often in the face of entrenched opposition. This movement has identified a critical gap: the legal expertise to document wrongful harms and challenge the legal opposition to reparations efforts.
The Ogletree Reparative Bar Association (ORBA) is designed to close this gap. ORBA’s mission is to equip the national reparations movement with high-quality legal support at scale by fostering a network of inspired and trained legal professionals committed to reparative justice law and advocacy.
GDI’s role
Supporting founder, Professor Justin Hansford, GDI co-developed ORBA’s strategy, built the organization’s operating model and essential infrastructure, formalized community partnerships, and recruited early staff.
