Mangrove Water
Mangrove Water is an initiative providing implementation support and technology solutions for in-line water chlorination in LMICs. The initiative aims to address a critical gap in safely managed drinking water access, focusing on automating water treatment through passive chlorination systems that don’t require electricity or daily user intervention. Recent research indicates that over 4.4 billion people lack access to safely managed drinking water, with approximately 2.32 billion people using contaminated water sources that could be treated using passive chlorination systems.
GDI’s role
To bridge the gap between rigorous academic research and implementation, Global Development Incubator (GDI) partnered with Mangrove Water to transform the initiative into a scalable social enterprise. During the incubation period, GDI provided seed funding and embedded its team into the organization to manage finances, operations, and communications. Beyond staffing, GDI supported the development of Mangrove’s core scaling strategy. This included outlining the business model with emerging revenue streams tailored to diverse clients, formalizing the organization’s blueprint, and setting the groundwork for the independent non-profit. Through its work and strategic guidance, GDI equipped Mangrove Water with the clarity and operational infrastructure needed to successfully deploy in-line chlorination solutions and innovations globally.
